Veterinary I 21/03/2016

The cáligus or sea lice is a parasite that attacks salmon cultivation, specifically Salmo salar (Atlantic salmon) and Oncorhynchus mykiss (Rainbow trout). These parasite species has been until now one of the biggest problems for the salmon industry Chile.

Our area Aqua Veterinary Division has become the exclusive distributor of the first vaccine in the world to fight this disease, allowing to reduce the heavy losses suffered by producers.

Aqua team brought to Chile the Providean Aquatec Sea Lice vaccine from Argentinian Tecnovax laboratory. Its efficacy, safety and duration of immunity were tested in over 18 clinical trials, reaching between 86% and 61 % reduction.
